Whitley County was created from Knox County in 1818. Whitley County currently has around 35,000 residents. The county was named after Colonel William Whitley. Williamsburg is the county seat of Whitley County. The population is around 5,000. The Cumberland River flows through the middle of the city. The town’s initials growth was due to three fresh water springs in the area. Corbin is probably the more famous city of Whitley County. Corbin is the birthplace of Kentucky Fried Chicken and you can still visit the first restaurant built. KFC was founded by Harland David Sanders. Corbin is actually located in three different counties, Whitley, Knox and Laurel Counties. Corbin has a population of around 7,000 people. Whitley County is also home to Cumberland Falls, the only waterfall in the northern hemisphere to create a moonbow.
