Pulaski County has a population of around 63,000 and 11,000 of those residents reside in the county seat of Somerset. Somerset was established in 1798 by Thomas Hansford, and the city was named after Somerset County, New Jersey. In 1950, Lake Cumberland transformed Somerset to a recreational haven. Lake Cumberland brings in over one million visitors a year and is one of the largest man-made lakes in the world. It’s a key to Kentucky’s economy because it generates $150 million in revenue each year.
