An Essential Guide for Protecting Your Rights
Todd is an experienced civil trial attorney focusing on serious personal injury cases involving trucking collisions, car wrecks, nursing home abuse and neglect, and fatal accidents and wrongful death. He has been lead counsel in numerous complex civil cases, trials, and appeals for his clients across the state of Kentucky, resulting in many settlements including settlements for six and seven figures, and in favorable jury verdicts and judgments for six and seven figures.
Todd was recognized by Super Lawyers as a top rated personal injury attorney in Kentucky for 2023. Super Lawyers recognizes the top lawyers in Kentucky as selected through a peer nomination process and based on the results of independent research. The lawyers selected are those who received the highest point totals during the annual nomination, research and peer review process. Super Lawyers also previously named Todd a Rising Star, when he was a younger attorney. These lists recognize attorneys in each state “who exhibit excellence in the practice of law.” The Super Lawyers lists recognize no more than 5% of attorneys in the state. For Rising Stars for younger attorneys, it recognizes no more than 2.5% of younger attorneys in the state.
Todd was also selected in 2012 by The National Trial Lawyers: Top 40 under 40, as one of the top 40 trial lawyers under the age of 40 practicing in Kentucky. Membership in the Top 40 under 40 is by invitation only and is extended exclusively to 40 attorneys in each state who exemplify superior qualifications, trial results, and leadership as a lawyer under the age of 40 as of January 1. Attorneys selected for membership must also focus their practice in the areas of civil plaintiff or criminal defense law and they must be in good standing with the state bar association.
After becoming a lawyer and before joining Varellas & Varellas, Todd clerked on the Supreme Court of Kentucky, completing a clerkship for Justice Mary C. Noble. Todd previously also worked in the areas of civil litigation in Lexington and trial defense in Washington, D.C.
Todd attended law school after being awarded a full academic scholarship for law school, including the top fellowship awarded by the Graduate School, the Charles T. Wethington, Jr. Fellowship, and a multi-year scholarship awarded by the College of Law. While in law school, he took advantage of opportunities to develop his litigation and trial skills and his understanding of the litigation process.
A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Todd is dedicated to serving our clients and representing people across Kentucky in claims for wrongful death or for serious injuries, and he seeks to find the best remedy to their legal issues.
