In 1795 Franklin County was formed from sections of Woodford, Shelby and Mercer Counties and was named after one of the most famous American inventors, Benjamin Franklin. Frankfort boasts a low crime rate, is affordable, and convenient as it is close enough to a big city for all the shopping and entertainment needs, but still maintains that small town charm. Site Selection Magazine also named Frankfort as one of the top 75 small towns for corporate expansion.
